Dorota Woroniecka-Krzyżanowska jest antropolożką społeczną, której zainteresowania badawcze dotyczą migracji, procesów urbanizacyjnych i zmiany społecznej na Bliskim Wschodzie. Z wykształcenia socjolożka i arabistka, obroniła doktorat w Szkole Nauk Społecznych IFiS PAN, posiada wieloletnie doświadczenie w prowadzeniu badań terenowych w Palestynie, Libanie i Iraku. Jej rozprawa doktorska dotyczyła relacji między przestrzenią a tożsamością w kontekście długotrwałego uchodźstwa na podstawie studium obozu dla uchodźców palestyńskich na Zachodnim Brzegu Jordanu. W projekcie podoktorskim badała rolę palestyńskich klubów sportowych jako platform samorządności i partycypacji społecznej na poziomie lokalnym. Jej późniejsze badania dotyczyły relacji wiedzy w zakresie architektury i planowania przestrzennego pomiędzy PRL a Irakiem na przykładzie historii Instytutu Architektury na Uniwersytecie Mosulskim. Obecny projekt badawczy, finansowany przez Narodowe Centrum Nauki, dotyczy przemian urbanistycznych Bagdadu w dobie międzynarodowych sankcji i jest realizowany we współpracy z naukowczyniami z Uniwersytetu Bagdadzkiego.

Short Profile

Dorota Woroniecka-Krzyzanowska is a social anthropologist interested in migration, urban transformations and social change with geographical focus on the Middle East. She holds degrees in Arabic studies (BA) and sociology (MA) from the University of Warsaw and a PhD in social sciences from the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology, Polish Academy of Sciences. Her PhD thesis focused on the relation between identity and place in the context of protracted exile, based on ethnographic study of a Palestinian refugee camp. Dorota’s post-doctoral project explored the role of sport and youth centers as sites of self-governance and local participation in the West Bank. Her  later research looked into knowledge relations in the field of architecture and urban planning between the Polish People’s Republic and Iraq through a case study of the Department of Architecture, University of Mosul. Dorota’s current research project explores the urban planning, reconstruction and change in Iraq during international sanctions.
