The talk is about the difference between how analytic philosophers listen to language and French Philosophy does: I am mostly considering  philosophers from the sixties and the seventies.

For starter, I remind contents of a previous paper about Derrida: I argue that in the Limited Inc. controversy neither Derrida understood what «seriousness»  meant for an analytic philosopher nor Searle understood that «differential  repetition»  counted as the main feature of language for French philosophers.

I explain what analytic philosophy of language is and what Wittgenstein brought to it. Hoping to clarify the contrast with French approach, I come back to an old star of French philosophy, Brice Parain. I make explicit what he retained as the most important features of language.

I conclude by telling why for me analytic approach could lead us to miss the essence both of mathematics and of language.

Jean Michel Salanskis – (ur. 1951) jest francuskim filozofem i matematykiem, obecnie profesor emeritus nauk ścisłych i filozofii na Uniwersytecie Paris X Nanterre.

Po ukończeniu studiów matematycznych współpracował z Jeanem-François Lyotardem. Następnie pracował dla CNRS (Francuskie Narodowe Centrum Badań Naukowych) i sformułował Heideggerowski opis myśli matematycznej oraz Husserlowską koncepcję podstaw matematyki. W tym okresie zainteresował się również naukami kognitywnymi. Zajmuje się epistemologią, fenomenologią i filozofią współczesną, a także tradycją żydowską. Zaangażował się we współczesne debaty filozoficzne, publikując na temat Deleuze’a, Derridy, Levinasa, Lyotarda, a także filozofii analitycznej i schizmy analityczno-kontynentalnej. W ostatnim okresie stara się rozwijać swoją własną filozofię (etanalizę), podejmując jednocześnie nowe dla siebie tematy, takie jak filozofia polityczna czy kwestie rewolucji informacyjnej.

Jean-Michel Salanskis – (born 1951) is a French philosopher and mathematician, professor emeritus of science and philosophy at the University of Paris X Nanterre.

After studying mathematics, J.-M. Salanskis worked in collaboration with Jean-François Lyotard. He then joined the CNRS (French National Center for Scientific Research) and formulated a Heideggerian description of mathematical thought and a Husserlian conception of the foundations of mathematics. He also took an interest in the cognitive sciences during this period. He works in the field of epistemology, on phenomenology and contemporary philosophy, as well as on the Jewish tradition. He became involved in contemporary philosophical debates, publishing on Deleuze, Derrida, Levinas, Lyotard, as well as on analytic philosophy and the analytic-continental schism.
In the most recent period, he has endeavored to develop his personal philosophy (ethanalysis), while tackling new subjects for themselves, such as political philosophy or the question of the contemporary informational revolution.
