Our New Management

We are pleased to introduce the new management of the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IFiS PAN):
Director of IFiS PAN: Prof. Valentina Lepri, PhD, DSc
Professor Lepri is a historian of ideas whose research focuses on the Renaissance. She earned her PhD at the University of Pisa and the National Institute for Renaissance Studies in Florence. She later completed her habilitation at IFiS PAN. She has been a research fellow at Harvard University’s Villa I Tatti – The Center for Italian Renaissance Studies and a recipient of prestigious fellowships, including the Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant and the Fernand Braudel Senior Research Fellowship at the European University Institute. She was also awarded the Józef Tischner Fellowship for Senior Scholars at the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna. In 2019, she received a European Research Council (ERC) grant to conduct the research project “From East to West, and Back Again: Student Travel and Transcultural Knowledge Production in Renaissance Europe (c. 1470–c. 1620).” Professor Lepri is also the head of the Centre for the History of Renaissance Knowledge at IFiS PAN.
Deputy Director for Sociology: Prof. Krzysztof Niedziałkowski, PhD, DSc
Professor Niedziałkowski specializes in environmental sociology, with a particular focus on public policy development, environmental protection, and sustainable development. He obtained his PhD from the University of Leeds (UK) and has been working at IFiS PAN since 2015. He is also affiliated with the Mammal Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences. In 2022, he earned his habilitation in sociology. He serves as a member of the Presidium of the Climate Crisis Commitee of the Polish Academy of Sciences’ vice-chair of the Environmental Sociology Section of the Polish Sociological Association, and a member of the Scientific Council of the Research Centre for Energy and Environmental Challenges at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań.
Deputy Director for Philosophy: Dr. Katarzyna Kremplewska
Dr. Kremplewska is a philosopher who earned her PhD at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IFiS PAN), where she has been working since 2016. She was a recipient of the Kościuszko Foundation Fellowship and has recently conducted a research project funded by the National Science Centre (NCN). Her research interests include the philosophy of subjectivity and selfhood, philosophical anthropology, hermeneutics, philosophy of culture and politics, and the history of ideas in the United States. She is the author of two monographs: George Santayana’s Hermeneutics of Finite Life and Human Self (SUNY, 2019) and George Santayana’s Political Hermeneutics (Brill, 2022).
